It’s good to send this email early in the morning like after 9 a.m. when an interviewer is likely to open his email and he would open yours too.

  • Wait for at least 1-3 days. Make sure you are omitting the weekend when counting your days.

  • Instead of composing a new email, use the same email.

  • Send a second followup email after interview to the same person. In this way, your first email subject line will be used again.

  • There are high chances that the interviewer will open up this email again and send you a response.

Step No. 1 Pick a Good Subject Line

Your subject line plays an important role in getting a response. If you don’t come up with a good one, there are less chances of your email getting any reply from your potential employer. Here are some subject lines which actually work. 

  • Thank You for your time, Mention Interviewer Name

  • Thank You ! (sometimes these two words are enough)

  • Thank You for the opportunity 

  • Followup regarding ( mention job position)

  • Follow up regarding my interview at (mention time and day)

Step No.2 Opening Paragraph

You need to tell him how thankful you are to him for conducting your interview. Make sure you mention your job title. Another thing you shouldn’t miss is to elaborate your interest in the job. Your communication must demonstrate your enthusiasm. No one likes to read cold emails.

Step No.3  Align your Talent with Position

First paragraph is all about being thankful. In the second paragraph, you will keep the interviewer engage by mentioning your skill and talent relevant to open position. The main goal here is to grab your reader’s attention toward your interests and experience which are meaningful for the company. Keep conversation relevant, concise and to-the-point.

 Step No.4 Why to Choose you?

In the last paragraph of your follow up email after the interview, you try to sell yourself a little. It is recommended to share your career objectives at this point. Another idea is to write a statement which directly gives an answer to the question “what makes you different from other candidate” or “why choose you over others”.

You can indirectly force them to send you a response by inviting them to ask you any question. 

Conclude this paragraph by writing “Looking forward to your response” I often write is as “Looking forward to your kind response” ( it works for me) Give it a try, it might do the same magic for you.  

Step No.5 Closing

End your email, but don’t forget to add your name, signature and contact details. Tell them how to reach you out easily.

7 Interview follow-up Email Writing tips

Don’t write long emails, no one likes to read that much.  Short and sweet follow up email after interview often works in your favor. So, keep it that way.

  1. Stay positive. If you are not getting a response then it doesn’t mean that your potential employers are ignoring you. Everyone is busy. A hiring manager has a lot to handle at the same time. So, when you are writing a follow-up email, then keep your tone polite.

  2. Many times, you want to say something in an interview or after an interview. If that is the matter then you can say that all in a follow up interview email. 

  3. The best time to send your follow up email is within 24 hours. 

  4. You can use the first-name of the interviewer, else add Mr. or Mrs. 

  5. Don’t send a lengthy email. Mention important points yet comprehend it.

  6. Always add your phone number and other contact details in the closing section. 

  7. Don’t hit the send button, unless you proofread the whole email. An error at this level will no doubt waste all your efforts.
